FAQ

Plaster models should be finished so as to ensure a good fit of the splint. Therefore take care to block out cavities on the model (due to incorrect casts) with plaster, silicone or resin. Excess plaster, that may be close to the cervical rim or in interdental spaces, should be removed with an instrument. Use a trimmer to adjust the height and rims of the model and smooth sharp edges with a plaster knife or bur. Block out undercuts prior to pressure moulding, using preferably light-curing blocking-out resins or silicones, such as BLUE-BLOKKER® or SIL-KITT. Do not use waxes, as they might melt when getting in contact with the heated thermoforming materials.

If you want to thermoform hard materials, teeth might break when removing the material. Therefore it is recommended to use duplicate models. Press an ISOFOLAN® foil for insulation over the model, cut the foil at the model base and perforate it interdentally. Embed the model into the pellets to prevent the material from overstretching. The model should be placed with the front teeth showing in the direction of the pivot axis or the locking shaft to ensure optimum adaptation of the material.

If you want to thermform soft materials, it is recommended to use preferably flat models (without guiding grooves). Position your isolated model on the model platform or embed it into the pellets using the pellet cover with the front teeth showing in the direction of the pivot axis.

That depends on the type of material you want to press over the model. Recommendations for model insulation can be found in the instructions for use of the material and in the indication chart on applications in the pressure moulding technique. Both documents can be downloaded on this page under "Further Information".

Make sure to fix the material with the imprint of the clamped material being readable from above. This applies to all SCHEU-DENTAL pressure moulding devices. If you are using devices from other manufacturers, please verify the heating system, as with some systems the material is not pivoted after being heated. When using material without imprint/codes on it, the side you are fixing the material does not matter.

The material may have absorbed moisture which evaporates and escapes during the heating process. This is visible in form of the bubbles. Ensure to keep your material at a dry place protected from light.

With each new material production, the processing parameters of the material, such as heating and cooling time, are reviewed by our technicians and adjusted if necessary. So there might be minimal deviations from batch to batch, offering you, the user, even more reliability when processing the material.

No, because the prolonged exposure to heat, humidity and oxygen may affect the material properties. Please dispose of the material, start a new heating process using new material and take care to thermoform the material immediately after the end of the heating phase. Both the BIOSTAR® and the MINISTAR S® pressure moulding units indicate the end of the heating phase by acoustic signals.

Basically, you should avoid overstreching the material and thus reducing the material thickness. If you are using a dental arcade model, the use of the model platform is recommended. If you are using a full model, it should be embedded into the pellets. For soft materials we recommend using the reusable pellet cover, preventing the pellets from sticking to the heated material and reducing loss of pellets.

Maybe too much pressure has been applied when removing or cutting and finishing the splint.
